Its design, by Herzog & de Meuron, features a glass façade constructed from over 1,000 curved glass panels.

The concert hall within is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the “White Skin” interior design by Yasuhisa Toyota; this utilizes digitally modeled plasterboard panels to scatter sound effectively. The building also houses a hotel, residential apartments, and public viewing platforms offering panoramic views of the city and harbor. The Elbphilharmonie aims to be accessible to all, offering both formal concerts and free public spaces.
