Constructed atop an older warehouse building (the Kaispeicher A), its distinctive glass structure and undulating roof have become a landmark of the city. The building’s design, by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, faced significant cost overruns and construction delays during its development.

The concert hall itself is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the “White Skin” interior – a specially designed plaster shell that diffuses sound.
