The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns. Built atop an existing warehouse structure (the Kaispeicher A), it has quickly become a landmark of Hamburg and a globally renowned concert hall. Its distinctive glass façade and undulating roofline were designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron.

The hall’s acoustics are considered exceptional, achieved through the innovative “vineyard” design created by Yasuhisa Toyota – seating arranged around the stage in terraces allowing for closer proximity to performers while optimizing sound distribution.
