Chucho Valdés will perform at Teatro Monumental in Madrid, Spain on April 16, 2027. Valdés is a Cuban pianist, composer and bandleader internationally recognized as one of the most influential figures in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. His musical style is deeply rooted in the traditions of Cuban music – son, danzón, rumba – but incorporates elements of jazz, classical music, and other global influences. He is known for his virtuosic piano playing, complex arrangements, and energetic performances. Valdés initially gained prominence as the pianist for the groundbreaking Cuban band Irakere, co-founded with Paquito D’Rivera in 1973. He has since maintained a prolific solo career, earning multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards.

Teatro Monumental is a historic concert hall located in Madrid’s University district. Originally inaugurated in 1923 as a theatre showcasing zarzuela (Spanish lyric-dramatic genre), it underwent significant renovations in the 1980s transforming it into a primarily music venue. The building features a distinctive Art Deco façade and has hosted performances by numerous internationally renowned artists across various genres including rock, pop, and flamenco.
