The group, founded by Skip Sempé, is recognized for its vibrant and expressive interpretations, often employing original instruments and a flexible approach to ensemble size reflecting historical practices. Their repertoire frequently features lesser-known composers alongside established figures, prioritizing musical drama and rhetorical clarity.
Laeiszhalle’s Großer Saal is a renowned concert hall with a significant history. Opened in 1908, it is considered one of Germany’s finest concert venues due to its exceptional acoustics. Designed by architect Martin Dülffer, the hall features a traditional “shoebox” shape favored for its sound quality. Throughout its history, the Großer Saal has hosted performances by numerous internationally acclaimed orchestras and soloists. Following extensive renovations completed in 2017, the hall retains its original character while incorporating modern technical advancements. The space can accommodate over 2,100 audience members and remains a central hub for musical life in Hamburg.
