Capella Ornamentata is a vocal ensemble specializing in historically informed performance practice of Renaissance and Baroque music, with a particular focus on lesser-known composers and repertoire from Central Europe. Their performances emphasize clarity of vocal lines and detailed attention to the stylistic nuances of the period, often utilizing period instruments where appropriate. The ensemble frequently explores sacred music alongside secular forms like madrigals and motets.
Kostel Sv. Simona A Juda (Church of St Simon and St Jude) in Prague’s Old Town dates back to the 14th century, though its current Baroque form largely reflects reconstruction undertaken in the early 18th century following damage during the Thirty Years’ War. Originally associated with a hospital dedicated to the treatment of plague victims, the church features significant frescoes by Jan Elias Horny depicting scenes from the lives of Saints Simon and Jude, as well as other biblical narratives. The interior showcases typical Baroque ornamentation including stucco work and gilded detailing. Throughout its history, the church has served various religious orders and functions within the local community. It is noted for its relatively intimate acoustic space suitable for vocal ensembles. The church underwent further restoration in the late 20th century to address structural issues and preserve its artistic heritage.
