Baaba Maal is a Senegalese singer and guitarist renowned for his innovative blend of traditional West African music with elements of jazz, rock, and Latin influences. His music often features the *ngoni*, a traditional West African lute, alongside modern instrumentation. Maal’s vocals are characterized by their emotive power and often address themes of social justice, spirituality, and cultural identity. He is considered one of Africa’s most important vocalists and a significant figure in popularizing African music internationally.

The concert is scheduled to take place at Amare, a modern arts complex located in The Hague, Netherlands. Opened in 2021, Amare functions as a central hub for performing arts in the city, housing the Residentie Orkest (Residentie Orchestra), Nederlands Dans Theater (Netherlands Dance Theatre), and the Royal Conservatoire.

The building itself occupies a prominent location opposite The Hague City Hall and incorporates the former Lucent Dance Theatre building within its design. Amare aims to be an inclusive space for artistic expression and collaboration, offering diverse programming encompassing music, dance, opera, theatre and spoken word. It represents a substantial investment in the cultural infrastructure of The Hague and seeks to attract both national and international artists.
