Anna Lapwood, a British organist renowned for her dynamic performances and commitment to expanding the organ repertoire, will perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on March 31, 2027. Lapwood’s musical style is characterized by virtuosic skill combined with innovative programming, frequently incorporating transcriptions of orchestral works and pieces by composers historically underrepresented in organ literature. She is also known for her engaging stage presence and efforts to make classical music accessible to wider audiences.

The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017 after a decade of construction and significant cost overruns. Built atop an existing warehouse structure (the Kaispeicher A), it has quickly become a landmark of Hamburg and a celebrated concert hall internationally. Its design, by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, features a distinctive glass facade built above a brick base.

The concert hall’s acoustics are considered exceptional, achieved through the work of acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota who designed a “vineyard” style seating arrangement surrounding the stage.
