Usher Hall opened in 1897 and is Edinburgh’s premier concert venue. Designed by Robert Rowand Anderson, it was built with funding from Andrew Usher, a prominent Edinburgh brewer. The hall is renowned for its excellent acoustics and its ornate Victorian architecture; significant restoration work was completed in 2009 preserving many original features while upgrading facilities. Throughout its history, Usher Hall has hosted a diverse range of performances including classical orchestras, chamber music ensembles, choral works, and popular music artists. It serves as the main venue for the Edinburgh International Festival each August and plays a central role in the city’s cultural life.
