The WDR Funkhausorchester will perform at the Kölner Philharmonie in Cologne, Germany on July 11, 2026. The orchestra is renowned for its versatility, encompassing a broad repertoire from classical transcriptions and jazz arrangements to contemporary compositions and film scores. Originally established in 1946 as a dance and entertainment orchestra for Northwest German Radio (NWDR), it has evolved into a highly respected ensemble known for its innovative programming and high artistic standards. While maintaining a strong big band tradition, the orchestra frequently collaborates with artists across diverse genres.

The Kölner Philharmonie, completed in 1986, is a major concert hall in Cologne and home to the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra. Designed by architect Hans Schwippert, it is notable for its acoustics and modern architectural style. The building replaced an earlier Philharmonie destroyed during World War II. It features a large main hall seating approximately 1,900 people, known for its shoebox shape which contributes to its excellent sound quality. Beyond orchestral concerts, the venue also hosts chamber music performances, song recitals and other musical events.
