Unionskirche, situated in the historic town of Idstein, is a significant example of late Gothic hall church architecture. Constructed between 1348 and 1360 following a donation from Archbishop Henry of Mainz, it was originally built as a collegiate church associated with the nearby monastery. The church’s interior is notable for its large, unified space – typical of hall churches – and its relatively sparse decoration compared to some other Gothic structures. It underwent substantial restoration in the 19th century under the direction of architect Eduard Schropp, which aimed to reinstate elements of its original medieval appearance while adapting it for contemporary use. Today it serves as a functioning Protestant church and hosts cultural events including concerts due to its excellent acoustics.
