Kian Soltani is a highly regarded Iranian-German cellist known for a deeply expressive and technically assured performance style. His repertoire spans a wide range, from the standard classical canon to contemporary works, often characterized by a rich tonal palette and nuanced phrasing. He frequently collaborates with leading orchestras and conductors internationally, and is recognized for both solo recitals and chamber music performances.
The Alte Oper Frankfurt (Old Opera House) holds significant cultural importance within Germany. Originally opened in 1880, it quickly became a prominent venue for opera and concerts, rivaling institutions in Bayreuth and Vienna. Severely damaged during Allied bombing raids in World War II, the building lay in ruins for decades. A lengthy public debate ensued regarding its reconstruction versus demolition; ultimately, a decision was made to rebuild the exterior faithfully to its original appearance while modernizing the interior for improved functionality.
Reopened in 1981, the Alte Oper now functions as a multi-purpose performance space hosting opera, ballet, concerts – including orchestral, chamber, and solo instrumental performances – as well as other events. Its acoustics are considered excellent, and it remains a central hub for musical life in Frankfurt and the surrounding region.
