Classical Concerts in The Hague
Experience Vicky Chow live on October 7th
Vicky Chow is a contemporary classical pianist recognized for her interpretations of minimalist and post-minimalist composers, particularly the works of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and Terry Riley. Her performances often emphasize rhythmic precision and a deeply expressive approach to repetitive structures, extending beyond traditional classical repertoire to include collaborations with electronic musicians and visual artists. She is known for her extensive work recording and performing the complete piano works of Philip Glass.
Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in The Hague serves as a venue for concerts, exhibitions, and official state functions. Originally constructed between 1649 and 1654, it was built as a Protestant church to accommodate the growing population of The Hague who did not fit within the existing Binnenhof chapel. Though no longer regularly used for religious services, it retains its historical architectural features including a distinctive organ and ornate interior detailing.
Throughout its history, Nieuwe Kerk has played a role in significant national events, including royal baptisms, weddings and funerals. Its acoustics are considered well-suited for chamber music and solo instrumental performances. The building underwent substantial renovation in the 1980s to adapt it for multi-purpose use while preserving its historical integrity.
