The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at Bunkamura in Shibuya, Tokyo on December 6, 2026. Established in 1911, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is Japan’s oldest and among its most esteemed symphony orchestras. The orchestra maintains a broad repertoire spanning classical staples through to contemporary compositions, and is known for its frequent collaborations with international conductors and soloists. It regularly performs at major venues throughout Japan and undertakes international tours.
Bunkamura is a large multi-purpose cultural complex opened in 1985, situated in the vibrant Shibuya district of Tokyo. The complex includes a concert hall – the Bunkamura Orchard Hall – a theatre, museums, and commercial facilities. Orchard Hall is renowned for its excellent acoustics, designed with a vineyard-style seating arrangement to provide optimal sound projection and audience intimacy. It has hosted performances by numerous internationally acclaimed orchestras and artists since its opening. Bunkamura was developed as part of a larger urban redevelopment project aiming to create a cultural hub within Shibuya, contributing significantly to the area’s artistic landscape. The building itself was designed by architect Tadao Ando.
