Experience Thomas Søndergård live on November 13th
Thomas Søndergård will conduct a concert at Usher Hall in Edinburgh on November 13, 2026. Søndergård is a Danish conductor known for his clarity of interpretation and a focus on orchestral colour. His repertoire is broad, encompassing standard works alongside contemporary compositions, and he frequently champions Nordic composers. He is recognised for building strong relationships with orchestras and eliciting nuanced performances, often described as possessing both technical precision and emotional depth.
Usher Hall opened in 1879, designed by Robert Rowand Anderson, and is Edinburgh’s principal concert hall. It’s notable for its excellent acoustics – achieved through its horseshoe shape inspired by the Gewandhaus in Leipzig – and its ornate Victorian architecture. Throughout its history, Usher Hall has hosted a wide range of performances, from classical music concerts featuring internationally renowned orchestras and soloists to choral works, popular music events, and public addresses. Significant renovations were completed in 2009 to enhance facilities while preserving the hall’s original character. The hall holds Category A listed building status, acknowledging its national importance in Scotland's architectural heritage. It remains a central venue for the Edinburgh International Festival each August.
