Experience Thomas Søndergård live on September 19th
Thomas Søndergård will conduct a concert at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on September 19, 2026. Søndergård is a Danish conductor known for his interpretations of Scandinavian composers – particularly Sibelius – alongside standard repertoire. His conducting style is often described as possessing clarity and a focus on textural detail, bringing a fresh perspective to both familiar and lesser-known works. He currently serves as Music Director of the Minnesota Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall opened in 1990, quickly becoming a central venue for music performance in Scotland. Designed by architects RMJM, the hall was built as part of the city’s preparations for being a European City of Culture in 1990. It’s notable for its acoustic design, intended to accommodate a wide range of musical genres, including classical, jazz, and contemporary music. The hall houses three performance spaces: the main auditorium (The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall), the New Auditorium – smaller and more flexible – and the Strathclyde Suite. The building also incorporates significant public art installations, reflecting Glasgow’s cultural heritage.
