The SWR Big Band will perform at the Admiralspalast in Berlin on May 20, 2027. The SWR Big Band is a German big band renowned for its diverse repertoire spanning jazz, swing, Latin, and contemporary compositions. Established in 1949, initially as the Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) dance orchestra, it has evolved into a highly respected ensemble known for collaborations with internationally acclaimed musicians and innovative arrangements. Their performances frequently blend traditional big band sounds with modern influences.

The Admiralspalast holds a significant place in Berlin’s cultural history. Originally opening in 1910 as the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stadt-Theater, it quickly became a prominent variety theatre during the Weimar Republic, hosting renowned artists and elaborate stage productions. Following damage during World War II, it was rebuilt and reopened in 1953 as a venue for political rallies under East German rule. After reunification, the Admiralspalast underwent extensive renovation and re-emerged as a multi-purpose event space hosting concerts, musicals, shows and conferences. The building’s architecture reflects its layered past, combining historical elements with modern adaptations.
