Experience Michael Wollny live on April 29th
Michael Wollny will perform at the Philharmonie Berlin on April 29, 2027. Wollny is a German jazz pianist known for his distinctive approach to improvisation and composition. His style blends elements of classical music – particularly Romantic composers like Chopin and Liszt – with jazz harmonies and a strong rhythmic drive. He frequently incorporates extended techniques on the piano and explores atmospheric soundscapes, often performing solo or in small ensembles. His work challenges conventional jazz structures while maintaining a deeply emotive quality.
The Philharmonie Berlin, inaugurated in 1963, is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and architectural significance. Designed by Hans Scharoun, the building deliberately eschews traditional shoebox concert hall shapes in favour of a tent-like structure, allowing for a more intimate and enveloping sound experience. It’s the home of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, but also hosts a diverse range of musical genres throughout the year. The hall underwent extensive renovations completed in 2022 which focused on improving acoustics further and modernizing facilities while preserving Scharoun's original design intent. It stands as a landmark building within the city’s cultural landscape and is considered one of the world’s leading concert venues.
