Staatskapelle Dresden, one of the world’s oldest and most esteemed orchestras, will perform at Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona on May 7, 2027. The orchestra is renowned for its rich, warm tonal quality and a historically informed performance practice deeply rooted in the Central European tradition. Its repertoire spans from Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular strength in the German Romantic composers like Wagner, Strauss, and Schumann – composers with whom the orchestra has long-standing historical associations. The Staatskapelle Dresden maintains a distinctive sound shaped by its long collaboration with prominent conductors including Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Strauss himself.

Palau de la Música Catalana, inaugurated in 1908, is a modernist concert hall designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. It is celebrated for its stunning architectural features, notably its elaborate stained-glass skylight representing a waterfall of light and color, and intricate mosaic work. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997, the Palau was conceived as a space dedicated to music – specifically choral singing – but quickly became a venue for orchestral performances and other artistic expressions.
