Experience Spanish Harlem Orchestra live on December 8th
Spanish Harlem Orchestra will perform at Yoshi’s Oakland on December 8, 2026. The ensemble is recognized for its dedication to preserving and performing traditional salsa dura, a hard-hitting, brass-focused style of salsa originating in the 1970s New York City salsa scene. Their arrangements emphasize complex rhythms, powerful horn sections, and improvisational solos, drawing heavily from the musical legacy of figures like Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, and Willie Colón. Founded in 2000 by pianist Ricky González, the orchestra aims to recapture the energy and authenticity of classic salsa while incorporating contemporary influences.
Yoshi’s Oakland has a significant history within the Bay Area jazz and music community. Originally founded in Berkeley in 1974 by Yoshie Akiba, it quickly became renowned for showcasing both established jazz legends and emerging artists. The venue relocated to Oakland in 2007, establishing itself as a premier listening room known for its intimate atmosphere and high-quality sound system. Yoshi's has hosted numerous Grammy Award winners and internationally acclaimed musicians across genres including jazz, Latin, blues, and world music.
