Santtu-Matias Rouvali, currently Chief Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra and formerly of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, is known for his dynamic and often adventurous interpretations of both classical repertoire and contemporary works. His conducting style frequently highlights dramatic contrasts and textural clarity, earning him recognition for fresh perspectives on established pieces alongside championing modern composers. He often demonstrates a particular affinity for the music of Sibelius and Stravinsky.

The Anvil, located in Basingstoke, Hampshire, is a prominent arts venue opened in 1998. Designed by architects Cullum & Nightingale, it serves as a multi-purpose space primarily hosting orchestral concerts, theatre productions, dance performances, comedy shows and conferences. The auditorium boasts a capacity of approximately 600 seats and is specifically designed to accommodate large-scale performances with excellent acoustics. It replaced the previous Basingstoke Concert Hall and has become a key cultural hub for the region, regularly hosting nationally and internationally renowned artists. The venue is managed by Hampshire Cultural Trust, a charity dedicated to arts and heritage across the county. The building also incorporates exhibition spaces and workshop facilities.
