The Théâtre municipal de Colmar opened in 1903 following designs by architect Jean Walter IV. The theatre underwent extensive renovations between 2018 and 2020, modernizing its technical capabilities while preserving its original ornate interior – including its lavish decorations and ceiling frescoes – which were intended to evoke the atmosphere of the Palace of Versailles. It functions as a multi-purpose venue hosting opera, ballet, theatre productions, and classical music concerts. The space has a capacity of approximately 650 seats.
