Experience Edgar Moreau live on July 6th
Edgar Moreau is a French cellist recognized for his interpretations of both standard repertoire and contemporary works, often characterized by a lyrical quality and technical precision. His performances frequently explore a broad range of emotional depth, drawing comparisons to historical cellists while maintaining a distinctly modern sensibility. He is known for commissioning new pieces and actively promoting 20th and 21st-century compositions for the cello.
The Église Saint-Matthieu in Colmar serves as a significant example of Neo-Gothic architecture, completed in 1908. Designed by architect Jean-Baptiste Schwilgué, also responsible for the Pfister House in Colmar, the church replaced an earlier medieval chapel on the same site. Its construction utilized Vosges sandstone, contributing to its distinctive pale rose hue. The interior features stained glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Saint Matthew, created by local artisans. Notably, the church's organ, built by Georges Schwenkedel, is considered a valuable instrument within the region. The building’s acoustics are well-regarded, making it a suitable venue for musical performances. It is currently used as a place of worship and also hosts cultural events throughout the year.
