Originally conceived as part of the Edinburgh International Exhibition, it quickly established itself as a key location for orchestral performances and continues to be home to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Edinburgh International Festival during August. The hall underwent significant refurbishment completed in 2009 enhancing its acoustics and facilities while preserving its Victorian architectural character. It is a Category A listed building, recognizing its national importance.
