Franziskanerkirche, or the Franciscan Church, holds a significant place in Salzburg’s history. Originally constructed in the 13th century as a Gothic church belonging to the Franciscan Order, it underwent substantial Baroque remodeling in the 17th and 18th centuries following damage during the Thirty Years' War. This reconstruction resulted in its current ornate interior featuring stucco work by Italian artists and ceiling frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Saint Francis of Assisi. The church’s organ itself has been rebuilt several times; the current instrument dates primarily from the mid-20th century but retains elements from earlier iterations and is known for its versatile sound.
