Maxim Lubarsky will perform at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Massachusetts on August 15, 2026. Lubarsky is a Russian-American pianist recognized for his powerfully expressive and technically brilliant performances of Romantic-era repertoire, particularly the works of Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Scriabin. He frequently programs challenging and virtuosic pieces, often exploring the darker, more dramatic aspects of these composers’ styles. His interpretations are noted for their intensity and emotional depth.

The Shalin Liu Performance Center opened in 2009 and is situated on Bearskin Neck in Rockport, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The hall is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, achieved through a vineyard-style design – seating wraps around the stage – and careful attention to sound reflection and absorption. It was designed by architect William Rawn Associates with acoustics consultation by acoustician Robert Davis. The center hosts a diverse range of performances including classical music concerts, chamber music series, jazz performances, and theatrical productions. It’s considered a significant cultural venue on the North Shore of Massachusetts, deliberately designed to foster an intimate connection between performers and audience. The hall seats approximately 330 people.
