Experience Lawrence Power live on October 4th
Lawrence Power is a British violist internationally recognised for his insightful interpretations and technical command. His repertoire spans a wide range, from standard classical and romantic works to contemporary compositions, frequently commissioning new pieces and collaborating with living composers. He is known for a particularly rich tonal palette and a willingness to explore the expressive capabilities of the viola beyond traditional expectations, often performing without a conductor in chamber-style settings.
The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall opened in 1990, becoming a central venue for music and performing arts in Scotland. Designed by architects Page\Park, it was constructed as part of the city’s cultural regeneration efforts following industrial decline. The hall is renowned for its acoustics, specifically designed to accommodate both orchestral performances and amplified music. Its main auditorium, the New Auditorium, seats over 2,400 people and features adjustable acoustic banners to tailor the sound for different events.
The hall hosts a diverse programme including classical music concerts by both Scottish and international orchestras, contemporary music performances, jazz, and various other events. It is home to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s regular Glasgow season and plays a significant role in the annual Celtic Connections festival.
