Classical Concerts in The Hague
Experience Lavinia Meijer live on January 30th
Lavinia Meijer is a Dutch classical pianist renowned for her interpretations of contemporary and 20th-century composers, particularly Philip Glass, for whom she is a dedicated interpreter. Her performances frequently feature prepared piano techniques and explore the boundaries between classical, minimalist, and electronic music. She is also known for championing new works written specifically for her, expanding the repertoire for the instrument.
The concert will take place at Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in The Hague. Originally constructed between 1649 and 1654 as a church for the growing Protestant population, Nieuwe Kerk does not function as a place of worship today. It served as the burial place for members of the House of Orange-Nassau from 1670 until 2021, when Queen Beatrix chose to be buried elsewhere.
Currently, Nieuwe Kerk operates as a cultural venue hosting exhibitions, concerts and events. Its interior features a significant historical organ and notable stained-glass windows. The building’s architecture represents Dutch Classicism and holds national significance as a site of coronations and state ceremonies throughout history.
