Lahav Shani is an Israeli-Austrian conductor known for his insightful interpretations and a notably fluid, expressive conducting technique. He often favors a transparent sound, emphasizing clarity of orchestral textures and a deep engagement with the emotional core of the music. His repertoire spans a wide range, from Baroque to contemporary works, but he is particularly recognized for his performances of Romantic and early 20th-century composers. He currently serves as Chief Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Artistic Partner of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Großes Festspielhaus in Salzburg, Austria, is a significant concert hall integral to the Salzburg Festival’s history. Opened in 1960, it was designed by architect Clemens Holzmeister specifically to accommodate large orchestral concerts and opera performances during the festival season. Its acoustics are highly regarded, offering a resonant yet clear sound experience. The hall seats approximately 2,180 people and features a relatively simple, elegant interior design focused on functionality and enhancing the musical experience rather than elaborate ornamentation. It’s built on the foundations of an earlier building – the old Pferdehalle (horse stable) – used for festival events prior to its construction.
