Kika Sprangers is a Dutch composer and sound artist whose work frequently blends acoustic instruments – particularly piano and organ – with electronic processing and field recordings. Her compositions are often described as atmospheric, meditative, and exploring themes of space, resonance, and the interplay between natural and artificial soundscapes. She frequently incorporates improvisation into her performances.
The Dominicuskerk is a Roman Catholic church located in Amsterdam’s Staatsliedenbuurt neighborhood. Originally consecrated in 1873, it was designed by architect Pierre Cuypers, also known for the Rijksmuseum and Centraal Station in Amsterdam. The church is noted for its neo-Gothic style, featuring stained glass windows and a prominent spire.
Over time, the Dominicuskerk has increasingly become a venue for cultural events alongside its religious function. It hosts a diverse program of concerts, often focusing on experimental music, choral performances, and organ recitals due to its excellent acoustics and the presence of a Steinmeyer organ installed in 1903 which underwent significant restoration in 2015. The building's architectural characteristics contribute significantly to the sonic experience within the space, making it a favoured location for artists working with spatial audio or ambient sound.
