Jazz Concerts in Ghent
Experience Julien Tassin live on July 10th
Julien Tassin, a Belgian composer and pianist, will perform at Bijlokehof in Ghent on July 10, 2026. Tassin’s musical style is often described as minimalist, atmospheric, and deeply influenced by classical composers like Arvo Pärt and Philip Glass, while also incorporating elements of ambient and electronic music. His compositions frequently feature repetitive structures, delicate piano textures, and a focus on creating immersive sonic landscapes. He often works with field recordings and explores themes of nature and introspection within his work.
Bijlokehof is a historic site in Ghent, originally established in 1394 as a beguinage – a community for lay religious women. It served as such for over five centuries until 1870. Following its secularization, the site was repurposed initially as a hospital and later as a university campus for the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of Ghent University which remains there today. The grounds retain much of their original medieval layout, including white-washed houses surrounding a central green space. The architecture represents a significant example of Flemish beguinage design, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007 alongside other Flemish beguinages.
