Joe Lovano, a highly acclaimed American jazz saxophonist and composer, will perform at De Bijloke in Ghent, Belgium on November 12, 2026. Lovano’s musical style is rooted in the post-bop tradition, yet incorporates influences from a broad spectrum of jazz history – including hard bop, modal jazz, and avant-garde elements – alongside world music traditions. He is known for his lyrical improvisations, robust tone, and exploration of harmonic complexity. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous prominent figures in jazz, such as McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock and Paul Motian.

De Bijloke is a historic complex in Ghent originally founded in 1389 as a medieval hospital dedicated to Saint Elizabeth. For centuries it functioned as a hospital before undergoing extensive renovations completed in 2000. Today it serves as a cultural center housing the LUCA School of Arts alongside concert and performance spaces. The concert hall within De Bijloke is recognized for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting which frequently hosts classical music performances, opera, and jazz concerts. Its architectural blend of historical structure and modern design contributes to its unique atmosphere.
