Roy Thomson Hall opened in 1982 and is recognized for its exceptional acoustics, consistently ranking among the world’s greatest concert halls. Designed by Arthur Erickson and Mathers & Platt, the hall was named in honour of Roy Thomson, 1st Baron Thomson of Fleet, whose family foundation provided significant funding for its construction. The hall's design incorporates a “shoe-box” shape favoured for acoustic performance and features extensive use of concrete and wood to enhance sound quality. It serves as the primary performance venue for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and hosts a diverse range of musical events throughout the year. The hall underwent significant renovations completed in 2022 to further refine its acoustics and enhance patron experience.
