Joe Lovano, a highly acclaimed American jazz saxophonist, tenor and alto sax player, will perform at the Gaillard Center in Charleston, South Carolina on October 20, 2026. Lovano’s musical style is rooted in the post-bop tradition, demonstrating a strong harmonic and melodic sensibility influenced by masters like Cannonball Adderley and Sonny Rollins. He is known for his improvisational skills, incorporating elements of contemporary jazz, Brazilian music, and even classical forms into his work. Throughout his career he has led numerous ensembles and collaborated with prominent figures such as Paul Motian and Dave Brubeck.

The Gaillard Center, opened in 2015, serves as Charleston’s premier performance hall. It replaced the original Gaillard Municipal Auditorium which operated from 1938 to 2013. The new facility was designed by David M. Schwarz Architects and boasts a 1,800-seat main hall with exceptional acoustics. Beyond hosting national touring Broadway shows and concerts spanning diverse genres – including classical, pop, and jazz – the Gaillard Center also supports local arts organizations and educational programs.
