Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), under the leadership of Wynton Marsalis, presents a performance showcasing the vast repertoire of jazz music. The JLCO specifically focuses on the traditions established by masters like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Charlie Parker, while also commissioning new works and exploring contemporary interpretations within the jazz idiom. Their performances typically encompass a range of styles including swing, blues, and bebop, emphasizing both virtuosity and historical accuracy.
The concert will be held at the Lensic Performing Arts Centre in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Originally built in 1931 as a movie palace named the Lensic Theater, it was designed in the Pueblo Deco style – a regional adaptation of Art Deco incorporating Native American and Spanish Colonial architectural elements. The building underwent significant renovations in the late 1990s and early 2000s to transform it into a multi-disciplinary performing arts venue.
The Lensic now hosts a diverse array of events including music concerts, dance performances, theatrical productions, and film screenings. It is recognized for its intimate setting and excellent acoustics contributing to its prominence as a cultural landmark within Santa Fe’s historic downtown district.
