Esperanza Spalding will perform at the Lensic Performing Arts Centre in Santa Fe, New Mexico on September 18, 2026. Spalding is a Grammy Award-winning bassist, vocalist, and composer whose music blends jazz with elements of soul, funk, and Brazilian music. Her work is characterized by complex harmonies, sophisticated arrangements, and lyrical explorations of identity and spirituality. She frequently incorporates storytelling and conceptual frameworks into her albums and performances, moving beyond traditional genre boundaries.

The Lensic Performing Arts Centre occupies a historically significant building originally constructed in 1931 as a movie palace. Designed in the Pueblo Deco style by architect George E. Phillips, it served as Santa Fe’s primary cinema for several decades. Facing potential demolition in the 1990s, a community-led effort successfully saved the building and transformed it into a multi-disciplinary performing arts venue.

The Lensic hosts a diverse range of events including concerts, dance performances, theatre productions, film screenings and lectures. It underwent extensive renovations completed in 2018 which modernized facilities while preserving its original architectural details and character.
