Jakub Hrůša is a Czech conductor recognized for his insightful interpretations and meticulous attention to orchestral detail. His repertoire spans a wide range, from standard classical and romantic works to 20th and 21st-century compositions, with a particular affinity for Czech musical heritage – composers like Janáček, Martinů, and Dvořák frequently feature in his performances. He is known for a clarity of sound and a focus on illuminating the narrative within the music.
The Philharmonie Berlin, situated in the Kulturforum, is one of the world’s most renowned concert halls. Completed in 1963, it was designed by Hans Scharoun and acoustician Lothar Cremer. Its distinctive asymmetrical form was revolutionary for its time, prioritizing acoustic excellence over traditional symmetrical hall designs. The hall is celebrated for its warm, resonant sound and intimate atmosphere despite its large capacity.
The building underwent extensive renovation between 2013 and 2015 to further enhance its acoustics and modernize facilities while preserving Scharoun's original architectural vision. It serves as the home of the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra but also hosts performances by other leading international orchestras and soloists.
