Ivor Bolton is recognized as a conductor specializing in historically informed performance practice, particularly within the Classical and early Romantic repertoire. His interpretations are often noted for their clarity, elegance, and attention to stylistic nuance, frequently employing research into the performance traditions of the composers he conducts. He has a strong association with Mozart and bel canto opera, but his range extends to works by composers like Beethoven, Schubert, and Mendelssohn. He currently serves as Principal Conductor of the Teatro Real in Madrid.

Roy Thomson Hall, opening in 1982, is Toronto’s primary concert hall and a significant landmark. Designed by Elgin & Howard Architects with acoustical design by Norbert Schulze, it’s renowned for its exceptional acoustics – consistently ranked among the best in the world. The hall was originally named Massey Hall II during its planning stages but was renamed to honour Roy Thomson, then the owner of The Globe and Mail newspaper who provided substantial funding towards its construction. It serves as the permanent home of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and hosts a wide variety of musical performances including classical concerts, popular music shows and other events. The hall underwent significant renovations completed in 2022 to further enhance its acoustic qualities and patron experience.
