Experience Ingo Metzmacher live on August 20th
Ingo Metzmacher will conduct a concert at the Felsenreitschule in Salzburg, Austria on August 20, 2026. Metzmacher is recognized for his interpretations of 20th and 21st-century music, often focusing on composers like Ligeti, Penderecki, and Stockhausen, alongside a historically informed approach to standard repertoire. His performances are characterized by precision, clarity, and a willingness to explore challenging scores; he frequently champions contemporary composers and new musical approaches.
The Felsenreitschule, translating to “rock arena school,” is an open-air theatre carved directly into the Mönchsberg mountain in Salzburg. Originally constructed in 1926 as a festival theatre for Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s play *Jedermann*, it was designed by Professor Alexander Popp. The venue uniquely blends natural rock formations with architectural elements, creating exceptional acoustics. During World War II, the space was used as a stable and suffered damage, requiring post-war restoration. It became a key venue during the Salzburg Festival and continues to host opera, concerts, and theatrical performances annually. Its inherent acoustics and dramatic setting make it a highly sought-after performance space.
