Designed by Elora Hardy and Arthur Erickson, the hall’s architecture incorporates concrete and wood, contributing to its sound quality. It serves as the primary performance space for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and hosts a wide range of musical genres including classical, jazz, and world music. The hall underwent significant renovations completed in 2022 which focused on improving accessibility, enhancing patron experience and further refining the acoustic environment. Its capacity is approximately 2,600 seats. The hall is named after Roy Thomson, 1st Baron Thomson of Fleet, a Canadian newspaper magnate who provided significant funding towards its construction.
