Experience Geoffrey Paterson live on January 29th
Geoffrey Paterson is a Scottish composer and organist known for works often described as neo-romantic, blending traditional harmonic language with contemporary textures and influences from Scottish folk music. His compositions frequently explore themes of landscape, spirituality, and national identity, and include pieces for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and vocal forces alongside his significant output for the organ.
The venue for the concert, City Halls in Glasgow, opened in 1938 as the main municipal concert hall for the city. Designed by William Binnie Bennett, it was intended to provide a high-quality performance space accessible to a broad audience. The building’s architecture reflects an Art Deco style, notable for its clean lines and sophisticated ornamentation. Throughout its history, City Halls has hosted a diverse range of performances including classical concerts, jazz events, and civic ceremonies.
Following a major refurbishment completed in 2012, the venue now offers enhanced acoustics and improved facilities while retaining its original character. It is currently operated by Glasgow Life, part of Glasgow City Council, and continues to serve as an important cultural hub within the city's vibrant arts scene. The hall is recognised for its intimate atmosphere and excellent sightlines.
