Francesco Turrisi will perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on November 25, 2026. Turrisi is an Italian pianist and composer known for his explorations of early music traditions – particularly those of Sicily and the Mediterranean – blended with contemporary improvisation and jazz sensibilities. His work frequently incorporates historical instruments and research into forgotten musical practices, resulting in a sound that is both deeply rooted in the past and strikingly modern. The Elbphilharmonie itself opened in January 2017, constructed atop a historic warehouse (the Kaispeicher A) in the HafenCity district of Hamburg. Its design, by Herzog & de Meuron, features a striking glass facade built around the existing brick warehouse structure. The concert hall within is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the innovative “vineyard” terraced seating arrangement designed by Yasuhisa Toyota. This design aims to create a closer connection between performers and audience members while optimizing sound distribution. The building serves as a major cultural landmark for Hamburg and hosts a wide range of classical music performances, as well as other artistic events.
