Experience Francesco Turrisi

Francesco Turrisi is an Italian pianist and composer based in Norway, renowned for his innovative explorations bridging early music, jazz improvisation, and traditional Mediterranean folk. Born in Lecce, Italy in 1976, Turrisi initially trained classically before immersing himself in the vibrant jazz scene of Bologna. He moved to Oslo in 2008, quickly becoming a central figure in the Norwegian improvised music community.

Turrisi’s style is characterized by a unique synthesis of historical performance practice – particularly from the 16th-18th centuries – with contemporary harmonic and rhythmic sensibilities. He frequently performs on harpsichord, organ, and piano, often alongside traditional Southern Italian instruments like the *tamburello* (frame drum).

He’s a founding member of the critically acclaimed ensembles Food (with Trygve Seim & Per Oddvar Johansen) and Anomalous Biomass (with Audrey Chen & Peter Ole Sund), both releasing albums on ECM Records. His solo albums, including “Nidi di Novembre” (2017) and “Where We Are” (2020), have garnered widespread praise for their originality and depth.
