The Dutch Swing College Band is scheduled to perform aboard the S.S. Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands on November 22, 2026. The band is renowned for its traditional New Orleans jazz sound, often referred to as “Dutch Swing,” characterized by collective improvisation, a strong rhythmic drive, and instrumentation typically including clarinet, trombone, trumpet, banjo, piano, double bass, and drums. Formed in 1945, the band has maintained a consistent presence in the traditional jazz scene for over seven decades, becoming a significant cultural export for the Netherlands.

The S.S. Rotterdam was originally launched in 1959 and served as a flagship for the Holland America Line, operating transatlantic passenger service between Rotterdam and New York City for nearly four decades. Known as “The Grande Dame” of the fleet, she represented Dutch design and engineering prowess during her active years. Following her retirement from regular service in 1997, the ship was extensively renovated and permanently docked in Rotterdam harbor in 2010. Today it functions as a hotel, conference center and event venue while retaining much of its original art deco interior and historical character.
