Davina & The Vagabonds perform a blend of vintage Americana rooted in New Orleans jazz, blues, and swing. Their sound is characterized by Davina Sowers’ powerful vocals and virtuosic piano playing, alongside a tight rhythm section featuring upright bass, drums, and often horns. The band has toured extensively, gaining recognition for their energetic live performances and Sowers’ songwriting which explores themes of love, loss, and resilience. They've released several albums to critical acclaim, establishing a dedicated following within the roots music scene.

The Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant in Minneapolis opened in 1981 and quickly became a prominent venue for both local and nationally touring musicians. Originally founded by Lowell Pickett, it was conceived as a space dedicated to showcasing jazz but has since broadened its musical scope to include blues, folk, rock, and world music. The venue is known for its intimate setting – holding approximately 300 people – and excellent acoustics. Over the years, The Dakota has hosted numerous renowned artists and remains a significant cultural hub within the Twin Cities area. It underwent a major renovation and reopening in 2023 following a fire in 2019.
