Experience Carolyn Sampson live on March 21st
Carolyn Sampson is a British soprano renowned for her interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire, particularly celebrated for her performances of Handel, Bach, and Mozart. Her musical approach emphasizes clarity of diction, expressive phrasing, and a nuanced understanding of historical performance practice. She frequently collaborates with leading period instrument ensembles and is recognised for both concert and operatic work.
The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh opened in 1979 following a public campaign to save the former Hopetoun Free Church. Designed by architects Gokay Deveci & Partners, it was specifically conceived as a venue for music performance, addressing a perceived gap in Edinburgh’s concert hall provision. The building retains much of the original church’s Gothic Revival exterior while housing a flexible auditorium known for its excellent acoustics.
Throughout its history, The Queen’s Hall has hosted a diverse range of artists spanning classical music, jazz, world music, and contemporary genres. It serves as a key venue during the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe Festival each year. The hall underwent significant refurbishment in 2018 to enhance accessibility and improve facilities while maintaining its original character. It is currently operated by The Queen's Hall Limited, a registered charity.
