Opened in 1978, it is named after Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, whose remains are interred nearby in a memorial grave. The hall comprises several spaces, including the main Grieg Hall seating approximately 2,200 people, known for its excellent acoustics and architectural design featuring extensive use of wood.
The hall regularly hosts a wide range of performances including classical music concerts (particularly those featuring the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra – its resident orchestra), pop and rock concerts, theatrical productions, and conferences.
