Biréli Lagrène is a French jazz guitarist renowned for his virtuosity and stylistic versatility. Initially celebrated for his remarkable Django Reinhardt-inspired gypsy jazz playing in the 1980s – often referred to as “gypsy swing” or “jazz manouche” – Lagrène’s musical exploration has expanded to encompass bebop, fusion, and electric jazz. He frequently incorporates elements of Latin music and demonstrates improvisation skills across diverse genres. His playing is characterized by rapid-fire picking, melodic inventiveness, and a distinctive tone.
