Aja Monet will perform at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) in Durham, North Carolina on October 9, 2026. Monet is a poet, performer, and conceptual artist whose work blends spoken word, poetry, music, and visual art. Her musical style often incorporates elements of jazz, soul, and hip-hop influences alongside her powerful poetic delivery, frequently addressing themes of Black womanhood, spirituality, ancestral connection, and sociopolitical issues. She has released several critically acclaimed albums including *The Bell*, *Building a Resilience*, and *When the Dark is Drowning*.
DPAC opened in 2008 as a privately funded public-private partnership between the City of Durham and Duke University. The venue was designed by renowned architect Antoine Predock and is known for its distinctive architectural features resembling a flowing ribbon. It serves as the largest performing arts center in the Triangle area of North Carolina. DPAC hosts a diverse range of performances including Broadway shows, concerts, comedy acts, dance performances and other live events. The center's main performance hall seats approximately 2,700 people and is designed to provide excellent acoustics and sightlines for all audience members.
