The Carolina Theatre originally opened in 1926 as a movie palace and vaudeville house. Designed in the atmospheric style by architect William H. Boney, it showcased both films and live performances during its early years. After periods of decline and closure, a significant restoration project completed in 1994 revitalized the theatre.

Today, the Carolina Theatre functions as a non-profit performing arts center hosting a diverse range of events including concerts, theatrical productions, films, and community gatherings. The building retains many of its original architectural features including ornate plasterwork and a grand lobby.
